Going back to running after a year and I don't know where to start

Baby is one, I'm cleared, I have no core to speak of and haven't run since 2024. Do I just... go? Or is there a sensible on-ramp that isn't 'couch to 5k' for someone who used to run 10ks?

The good news is it's usually weeks, not months, if you start sensibly. It's only long when you don't.

I ignored exactly this advice last year and set myself back four months. Do the boring intervals.

'It'll feel patronizing' — you've clearly met me.

Not 'just go', but you're closer than you think. The thing that catches people isn't fitness, it's load tolerance — your heart and lungs remember, your pelvic floor is starting again. Walk-run intervals for a few weeks even though it'll feel patronizing. If you leak or feel heaviness, that's a stop sign, not a push-through.
